Experienced Instrumental Music - AMI 1OI
This course is designed for students who are coming to KCI from a feeder school where they have been in an instrumental (band) music class setting for a minimum of one year.

Beginning Instrumental Music - AMI 1OX
This course is designed for students who are playing a band instrument for the first time. Students choose an instrument based on availability from the following list:
Flute, Clarinet, Bass Clarinet, Alto Saxophone, Tenor Saxophone, Baritone Saxophone, Trumpet, French Horn, Trombone, Euphonium (Baritone), Tuba, Percussion.

Notes:

Percussion students are required to gain facility on one of the following: snare drum or mallet percussion–xylophone or orchestra bells. Based on interest, students may choose to study both, and in addition, all students will have opportunities to apply their percussion skills to a variety of additional instruments including timpani and many auxiliary percussion instruments.)

Double reed instruments (oboe and bassoon) are also available to learn. Students who select these instruments are responsible for providing their own reeds.

Piano/keyboard and string instrument instruction is not available in the instrumental music courses at KCI. Students with piano or string background must select an instrument from the above list as their instrument for purposes of the Grade 9 Instrumental Music courses.
For students who have had private music instruction but have not participated in a band setting, please contact the KCI Music Department to help make the appropriate course selection between the experienced and beginning courses.

Vocal Music - AMV 1OI
This course is open to any student interested in developing vocal and choral technique. Students will sing a variety of styles of repertoire and gain experience in the expressive art of singing.
